The two-prince confusion…
Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
Dan 9:26 And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The two stars show where the two princes are in the timeline. (see above)
In vs 25 it’s the “anointed Prince” which is Messiah. Verse 26, it’s just the ‘prince’. The word “prince” in both verses mean the same thing - leader or ruler but in verse 25 it’s differentiated by “anointed” which means Messiah. So far, no mention of antichrist or tribulation. I’m not saying there is no antichrist ever or no tribulation, just not here.
Who confirms a covenant?
Dan 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
The “he” in this verse is where many people think it’s speaking of the antichrist. The subject is Messiah. This whole prophecy is about what Messiah is going to do on the cross, WHEN He’s going to do it, and the RESULT which ends the sacrifice because HE, Messiah, was the ultimate sacrifice.
There’s also no mention of a ‘peace agreement,’ between antichrist and Israel in this verse or anywhere else in the bible. This is from the imaginations of man because it sells books, movies, and bad doctrine. Again, please don’t be deceived by these teachings.
Consider these verses:
Matt 20:28 “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
1 Tim 2:5,6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
About “Confirming” - I’m going to put this as simply as I can…
I make a promise to you that I’m going to pick you up at your house to go somewhere. When I actually show up, then I have confirmed that my words were true. That’s what Yeshua did - he made a covenant with His disciples; they broke bread and drank wine. But then He actually confirmed this covenant by shedding his blood for us, (pictured by wine and He is the ‘bread of Life) and paying the ‘ransom’ price for us thus redeeming us.
So, in one act, He confirmed the covenant by His sacrifice And abolished the sacrificial system by the same act because He is the ultimate sacrifice.
So where do we place this one week at?
We have a boundary of 70 weeks with which to place it. To place it outside of this boundary doesn’t make any sense. There is only one place it can be - in that slot for the last week. (7 years)
When you consider what scripture actually says and their historical fulfillments, then you have an accurate picture of these events. And if you understand how and where God is working in our time, then you will see that some of these events don’t exactly repeat but rhyme. They are similar to ___ but not exactly the same.
Below is the timeline with everything put together. Hopefully this visual is of some help.
In the next and last part, I will give bible verses showing the fulfillment of Dan 9:24 - that entire list.
